Enrollment
Olympia Community School (OCS) is enrolling children aged 4-11 for the 2013-14 academic year in three different classrooms: 2 year kindergarten, 1st & 2nd grades, and 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. Learn more about our teachers by reading their bios. Follow these steps to learn more and secure a place at OCS for your student.
1. Tour the school or arrange an open house
Learn about Olympia Community School by arranging for a school tour or attending an Open House. By visiting the school, you will better understand the philosophy and approach of our teachers and have the information you need to decide if your child should visit the School. Tours are typically available Monday through Friday at 10am.
To arrange a tour or sign up for an Open House, contact the Enrollment Coordinator by calling (360) 866-8047 or by email. The next Open House will be on May 29 from 6 - 8 pm.
2. Bring your child to OCS
After you’ve toured OCS, let us know when you’re ready for your child to see the School up close. Incoming Kindergarteners are invited to participate in a kindergarten preview with other prospective kindergarteners and our teacher. Contact the Enrollment Coordinator to sign up for the next Kindergarten Preview (May 22 at 1:30 pm) by calling (360) 866-8047 or by email.
Your prospective 1st-5th grader is invited to visit during a regular school day. Your child will experience a day in the life of an OCS student, get to know their potential future classmates and experience OCS teaching first hand. Typically, visits are available every Tuesday and Thursday through the first week of June. Contact the Enrollment Coordinator to arrange for a school visit day by calling (360) 866-8047 or by email.
3. Apply for admission
Our application form provides you an opportunity to tell us about your child, your hopes for your child’s education, and your interest in OCS. Complete all portions of the Admission Application and submit it along with the non-refundable Application Fee made payable to "Olympia Community School." You may bring your application with you to your tour or mail it to Enrollment Coordinator, Olympia Community School PO Box 12436, Olympia WA 98508. Please include a $25 application fee with your application (let the enrollment coordinator know if the fee poses a challenge for your family). If you apply for admission within 10 days of the school tour, we will discount your application fee by $5.
4. The admissions interview
Once you have submitted your application, the Enrollment Committee will request an interview with you to discuss the goals of both your family and those of OCS. This interview offers you an opportunity to acquire additional information and to share particular goals and concerns you may have about your child. Following the interview you will be told the date by which we expect to notify applicants of admissions decisions. After the interview, we will check references with your child’s former schools and notify you as soon as possible about your admissions decision.
5. Reserve your place
After an offer of admission, you may secure your child’s space at OCS by filling out the registration form and paying the registration fee of $250. Student space is offered on a first come first served basis following completion of the enrollment process. We do not exceed 15 students per class. Your first tuition payment will be due first weekday in June. A tuition and fees payment plan may be negotiated with the Treasurer.
